Cityfile: New York's Most Notable and Influential

I met Aby Rosen more than 40 years ago, when I was growing up in Frankfurt, Germany. At the time, I was sharing cab rides with him to and from school. I remember him as a "naughty" boy, as he was always up to a lark or two. My enduring memory of him is of a smiling boy. I don't think I ever saw him frown. I have never met him as an adult, but I assume that this is still one of his basic character traits. One memory of him is engraved in my memory and it still makes me chuckle after all these years. He told the cabbie one day to "drück mal auf die Tube", which is slang for flooring it. Evidently, the ride was never fast enough. Michael Afar
