Who
With partner Richie Akiva, Sartiano runs a handful of celeb-favored nightspots in town, including 1OAK, Butter and G-Spa. He's also the ex-boyfriend of an Olsen twin and of Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
Backstory
North Carolina native Sartiano moved to New York to attend Columbia. He soon found himself caught up in the velvet-rope scene and started promoting parties at the now-shuttered Life—where he first met future business partner Richie Akiva—while still a student. After graduating in 1997, he took a gig managing Spa, then partnered with Akiva to open the restaurant/nightclub Butter in 2002. In 2006, the duo followed up with G-Spa, the lounge located in the Gansevoort Hotel, with help from Jeffrey Chodorow. Other venues Sartiano has invested in over the years include the Star Room in the Hamptons, the LES eatery Salt, and the Deck at Pier 59 Studios.
In late 2007, Sartiano and Akiva, along with Jeffrey Jah and Ronnie Madra, opened 1OAK on 17th Street. The venture was beset by problems early on, though: A developer sued in November 2007 for $120 million, claiming he was the actual leaseholder on the 1OAK space. Akiva and Sartiano have since blamed the suit on sour grapes and professional jealousy. The exact nature of that profession? While most people would describe Sartiano as a nightlife entrepreneur or club owner, he prefers to describe himself as an "ambienteur," whatever that is.
On the side
Sartiano is a partner in Genetic Denim, a line of jeans founded by Ali Fatourechi and Shaun Hurley. The formula: Sartiano gets his celeb pals to wear the jeans out at night and Genetic gets press mentions—and everyone goes home happy.
Drama
The playboy club owner has had to deal with his share of theatrics. In 2000, he had a restraining order filed against Christian Curry, the publicity-seeking former Morgan Stanley analyst and Playguy centerfold, who Sartiano accused of harassment in a dispute over a girl. (Sartiano later sued Curry for $4 million.) In fall 2006, Sartiano was back in the papers after investors in Butter sued him and Akiva for $7.5 million, alleging that Sartiano had used the bar's accounts to pay for a car and an apartment, and to provide "virtually unlimited free food and alcohol for Sartiano and his guests."
Personal
The former "man snack" of Lindsay Lohan, Ashlee Simpson, and Ashley Olsen, Sartiano has been linked to Kristin Cavallari, Eliza Dushku, and Anne Hathaway. In early 2007, Sartiano left the Tribeca apartment he'd shared with Ashley Olsen to move into new flame Jamie-Lynn Sigler's 2,500-square-foot two-bedroom Tribeca duplex loft on Leonard Street. Now that the couple have broken up, it looks like Scott will have to find another rich starlet with whom to cohabit.
