Who

Augustine is co-founder of Chelsea's Luhring Augustine Gallery, which both represents contemporary artists like Christopher Wool and Gregory Crewdson and resells works by older favorites like Jackson Pollock.

Backstory

A Georgetown grad, Augustine co-founded his gallery with Lawrence Luhring in 1985. Now located at 531 West 24th Street, their artist stable includes talents like Gregory Crewdson, Larry Clark, George Condo, and Rachel Whiteread. Augustine and Luhring are also active in the secondary art market and have staged exhibitions by older artists like Gerhard Richter and Donald Judd. Known as something of a diplomat in the art world, Augustine is also the head of the Art Dealers Association of America, where he's focused his attention on educating collectors, democratizing the art market, and organizing the ADAA's annual non-profit February art show, which has slowly faded from a must-see to a side attraction as it's been eclipsed by the edgier Armory show. He also co-chairs the Advisory Council of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and regularly organizes panels on the art of curating shows.

Personal

He's married to Kathleen Vuillet Augustine; they tied the knot in 1986. The couple and their children live in Brooklyn Heights with a substantial art collection of their own, which includes pieces by many artists Augustine represents, other modern artists like Janine Antoni and Tunga, and Hans Wegner modernist furniture.
