Who
Satsky was a co-owner of the recently-shuttered but sure-to-be-resurrected club Stereo, where he could be found palling around with celebrity friends and glad-handing celebrity DJs.
Backstory
New Jersey-raised Satsky started sneaking into clubs at age 16 and attended Syracuse before moving to the city to embark upon a nightlife career. In the early days, he promoted events with fellow nightlifers Larry Kramer, Mike Heller, Jeff Goldstein, and Doug Akin, and later formed a company called Park Avenue Entertainment to host events around town. He went from promoter to proprietor when he teamed up with partners Brian Gefter, Barry Mullineaux, and John Cantor in the fall of 2005 to open Stereo in Chelsea. His promise to turn the venue into "Yankee Stadium for DJs" may have been hyperbole, but Satsky & Co. managed to generate plenty of buzz for the new venue by utilizing the same successful formula as Jason Strauss and Noah Tepperberg's at Marquee: celeb spottings, DJs popular with the trust fund/socialite set like DJ A.M. and Mark Ronson, and frequent mentions in the tabloids.
While Stereo took off nicely, Satsky's foray into the cutthroat dining biz wasn't as successful: In 2005, he opened East Village BBQ restaurant Smoked with NFL pro Keith Bulluck, but the spot closed after a year. Satsky suffered another setback in 2006 when he was edged out of the Hamptons' Star Room by principal owner Charles Ferri. Undeterred, Satsky hit the East End again in 2007, opening Stereo by the Shore in Southampton, attracting attention for offering a $4,000 package that included a lift via helicopter directly to the club from Manhattan.
Recently
In early 2008, Stereo—which was generating over $100,000 on a good weekend—closed its doors, though Satsky promptly vowed to reincarnate the venue downtown. Even before it officially went dark, the club had been the focus of increasingly negative attention. In 2007 Satsky & Co. were forced to cough up thousands in fines after the city alleged that they'd turned a blind eye to drug dealing on the premises. In September 2007, more money went flying out of Satsky's pockets when the club was burglarized by thieves who broke in through the roof and stole $29,000 in cash from a safe. He also suffered the indignity of having former partner Ferri blab to the media that in order to lure Victoria's Secret models to show up at Stereo, its owners were paying more than $10,000 a piece.
Personal
Satsky was once romantically linked to the disgraced Miss USA Tara Conner. He lives on West 57th Street and can be seen zipping around town in his 2006 Mercedes CLS500.
True story
For a benefit in 2006, Satsky donated $10,000 to secure a 9-week-old baby white tiger as a special guest. Later that night, actress Michelle Rodriguez was seen feeding the tiger milk from a baby bottle and swimming with it in an East Hampton pool.
