Who

A perennial social fixture in New York and Palm Beach, these days zaftig Gubelmann owns a line of home products, Vie Luxe.

Backstory

Marjorie is a blue blood to the core: Her grandmother, Barton Gubelmann, was the "first lady" of Palm Beach high society during the middle part of the 20th century, and her yachtsman grandfather, Walter Gubelmann, won America's Cup in the 1960s. (You can read all about Barton in the 2000 book, The Secret Life of Palm Beach and America's Richest Society.)

A third generation Palm Beacher, Marjorie made a name for herself in New York thanks to her hostessing abilities and regular appearances at events around town. Her day jobs, not surprisingly, have been rather negligible: Back in the '90s, she invested money on behalf of her family and described herself as a "venture capitalist." But she picked up a brand new hobby in 2004 when she teamed up with fellow socialite Daniel Benedict to launch Vie Luxe, a line of scented candles and sprays. Inspired by Gubelmann and Benedict's "favorite travel destinations" and their "passion for luxurious living," Gubelmann once said that the line grosses about $2 million a year—but it turned out all was not well with the venture when, in July '08, she announced she was suing Benedict for mismanagement and to stop him from setting up a rival company. The former best friends are now, sad to say, bitter enemies.

Personal

In 2003, Marjorie married Persian oil and gas exec Mohammed "Reza" Raein in Palm Beach. (Attendees at the glitzy wedding included Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer, Jennifer Creel, Samantha and Serena Boardman, and Tory Burch.) They had their first child, Cyrus, in 2005 before separating in 2007. MG lives on East 77th Street—her neighbors include aging screenwriter William Goldman—but you won't find her in the neighborhood very often given that she winters in St. Moritz, weekends in Palm Beach, and summers in Southampton.

Family ties

The Gubelmanns are a big—and very social—lot. Marjorie's parents are Billy and Shelly Gubelmann. She has a brother named Wyeth who races cars. It's Marjorie's aunt and uncle, Jim and Kate, who are the parents of James Jr. (or "Bingo") and twin daughters Tantivy Gubelmann Bostwick and Phoebe Gubelmann.

love her too! It's all in her blood. And little cyrus is deliciously scrumptuous, i think it has to do with the fact that he is the perfect mix of the East and the West.
