Who

Dr. Lisa Airan may not be the best dermatologist in town but she's the most social, that's for sure.

Backstory

Airan attended medical school at Northwestern and completed her residency at UCLA before setting up shop on Fifth Avenue in the late 1990s. Since then, it's been hard to tell whether her priority is tending to patients or socializing with the city's blue bloods. Still, while her evenings out at galas may seem like fun, they also serve a professional purpose: Making connections with society women isn't the worst way to drum up business. Now a ubiquity on the social scene, Airan's probably the only doctor in the city who's been profiled extensively on Style.com dressed in high-end couture. She's also made two Oprah appearances to discuss anti-aging skin procedures. So what kind of skincare tips does she have for Oprah viewers? On Airan's website, she lists the "5 Points of Good Living," which apparently include diet, exercise, and "cosmetic dermatology."

Personal

Airan married Toronto-based plastic surgeon Trevor Born in Tuscany in 2006. The couple live in a Gramercy Park North co-op; they paid $4.45 million for two units in the building in 2006.

Both my mother and I see her, and she's honestly so down to earth, talented, cool and professional, she amazes. Money is not her bottom line, and Dr. Airan could not be more honest or perceptive about both the wonders and realities of cosmetic dermatology. She has a stunning lack of pretentiousness - and I've been seeing her since back when she was still in Soho. Her groundedness continues to amaze. And please feel free to reach me here if anyone doubts that this is a real patient. The best part of all: she does stunning, subtle work. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

My two visits to Dr. Airan were extremely unpleasant. She was more concerned with name dropping than making sure the procedure (I grossly overpaid for) was administered properly. Besides being made to wait for over an hour in the waiting room, and then almost an hour sitting in the chair, she was unapologetic and condescending. Her back office staff was VERY aggresive about getting payment upfront before the procedure was performed. I highly discourage anyone from using Dr. Airan for anything other than syle advice (and being that she wears borrowed clothes), would not even suggest that. Put that in your restalyne needle and shoot it!
