Who

Henckels is the director of private brokerage at Stribling & Associates, a mid-sized firm that specializes in haute UES spreads.

Backstory

A native of Texas, Henckels was educated at Stanford and Harvard Business School and started out his career as a corporate banker. He eventually gave up banking for real estate, and made his name working for Edward Lee Cave, heading up Cave's luxury real estate brokerage. Henckels' first big sale? He sold tennis legend Billy Jean King a penthouse on the Upper West Side in 1982. He's since moved to Stribling where he now runs the firm's private brokerage division, which is dedicated to selling the most expensive listings. He's also known for the Luxury Market Report, a closely watched assessment of $5 million-and-up apartment sales that he publishes every six months.

Of note

Henckels' copious social connections have made him one of the most formidable Upper East Side real estate brokers, and the fact that he's married to socialite and heiress Fernanda Kellogg hasn't hurt either—Kellogg's father was Ambassador Francis Kellogg and her mother was Fernanda Wanamaker Munn, heir to the department store fortune. (As he once told New York, "Someone at 960 Fifth Avenue isn't going to call a stranger to sell their apartment.") Although he's generally secretive about his client list, some of his bigger deals have earned him ink in the papers. In 2005, he sold a townhouse owned by Robert and Joanne de Guardiola at 20 East 64th Street for $27.9 million. In July 2006, he sold the late philanthropist Paul Mellon's townhouse on East 70th Street to Woody Allen and Soon-Yi for $22.65 million. More recently, he sold Evelyn Annenberg Jaffe Hall's 16-room, 6,200 square foot apartment at 640 Park to Lehman Brothers CEO Richard Fuld for $21 million. Looking to spend nine figures on a new pad? Henckels has a lovely 17-room spread at 1020 Fifth for $50 million.

Personal

The rotund Henckels' wife, Fernanda Kellogg, currently serves as president of the Tiffany Foundation, the charitable arm of the jewelry company. (It's a second marriage for both Henckels and Kellogg.) Henckels and Kellogg are a fixture on the charity scene, where he can usually be spotted sporting his signature bow tie and glasses. Until recently, they lived at 88 Central Park West. In 2006, they sold their apartment to N.J. Nicholas Jr., the former co-chief of Time Warner, following a bidding war between Nicholas and actor Robert De Niro. They now reside on Park Avenue.

Off hours

Both Henckels and Kellogg are zealous equestrian fans. (Henckels' passion for horses dates as far back as 1970 when he won a riding title in Texas.) The couple was married on a horse farm, and went on an equestrian-themed honeymoon in Idaho. They now raise horses on a farm in Dutchess County, where they also organize an annual equestrian competition.
