Who
Farel is a hairstylist and the proprietor of the Julien Farel Salon on 57th and Fifth Avenue.
Backstory
Back in the 1980s, the French-born beauty school grad was snipping strands in the French Alps to support his ski hobby. His career took a big leap forward when his talent caught the attention of hair icon Jacques Dessange, who recruited him to his company and sent him to New York to run his "training school." Farel spent two years managing Dessange's program before decamping to Frédéric Fekkai's Chanel-based salon, where he quickly emerged as one of Fekkai's top earners. Inevitably, Farel started nursing ambitions of creating an empire of his own and in 2001, he left Fekkai to set his plan into motion. After briefly occupying a temporary location inside the Pierre Hotel, he teamed up with fellow Fekkai vets Elvin Arvelo and colorist Peter Oon to open the Julien Farel Salon on Fifth Avenue.

Farel's celeb-studded client list includes Salma Hayek, Kate Moss, Paris Hilton, Ivanka Trump, Lauren Bush, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Catherine Deneuve, Amanda Beard, and Richard Gere. He does a few big businessmen, too. Clients include (the almost bald) Jonathan Tisch and hedge fund billionaire Eddie Lampert.
