Who
Frost is the president and publisher of Crown Publishing Group, one of the larger publishing brands owned by book behemoth Random House.
Backstory
Frost founded Bantam Audio in 1985 and later became president of Random House's audio publishing division, before moving back to the world of dead trees in 2002, when she took over as head of Crown Publishing Group. While Crown itself falls under the Random House umbrella, there are a number of imprints within Crown, including Three Rivers Press, spirituality-centric Harmony, and cooking imprint Clarkson Potter.
Of note
In the past few years, she's scored big hits with the silly medical question book Why Do Men Have Nipples? and with a reprint of Barack Obama's autobiography Dreams from My Father, first published in 1995 when he was an unknown. In December 2006, Frost acquired Kitty Kelley's unauthorized biography of Oprah Winfrey after several other publishers passed on it. The Oprah chronicle was understandably a hot potato in the book biz since Kelley is notorious for her typically unflattering portrayals of famous folk (such as the Bush family, the British royal family, and John F. Kennedy) and Oprah's book club is critically important to publishers. The talk show queen has said of the book: "I'm not cooperating with it, but if she wants to write a book, fine. This is America. I'm not discouraging it or encouraging it."
Personal
Frost lives with her husband James in the Rye, New York, home they bought for $840,000 in 1998.
