Who
Morillo is a DJ, music producer and the founder of Subliminal Records. He's become the definition of a globe-trotting DJ, and frequently works in Ibiza, Miami and New York.
Backstory
Colombian-born Morillo started DJing at the age of 11 and paid his dues with gigs at weddings and small parties before working his way up to New York clubs. In the early 90s, he moved on to a producing career, adopting a variety of pseudonyms along the way including R.A.W., Lil' Mo' Ying Yang and Smooth Touch. He's best known, though, as Reel 2 Real, under which he produced the ubiquitous house song "I Like to Move It." The 1994 earworm became a mega-hit (and Morillo has made a pretty penny since then selling the song for use in ringtones and movie soundtracks). In more recent years, he founded a DJ management company (the optimistically-titled Double Platinum Productions) and his own imprint label, Subliminal Records, which he started up in 1997 with fellow DJs Harry "Choo Choo" Romero and Junior Sanchez. He continues to pay the bills via DJ gigs, though: He's a staple at massive clubs in Ibiza, Miami and London; here in New York, he regularly spins at the Pacha New York, the 30,000-square-foot club in which he's also a partner.
Personal
