Who

Gruber is a fashion publicist and the head of the PR firm Full Picture. She's also an executive producer of Project Runway and the wife of actor Kyle MacLachlan.

Backstory

The Miami native started her career in the music business, working at EMI Records and several smaller record companies before arriving at the publicity powerhouse Rogers & Cowan in 1991. Working under PR impresario Fran Curtis, Gruber handled PR for fashion clients like Victoria's Secret, Elite Models, and the Limited as well as a handful of film (Miramax) and music (U2) clients. By 1997, she was an SVP; two years later, she left R&C to found her own agency, Full Picture, which now services clients from offices in New York and LA. Her longtime right-hand is Jane Cha, who's been with her since Full Picture was founded.

Over the years, Gruber has worked with a long list of clients at Full Picture. She's handled of fashion and beauty companies (like Victoria's Secret, Revlon, Stefani Greenfield's Scoop, Stuart Weitzman, Barneys, and Frederic Fekkai's salons) as well as provided personal representation for the likes of Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Lisa Marie Presley, and David Kirsch. And she's done work on a number of restaurant/nightlife launches, too, for the likes of Ian Schrager, Stephen Starr, Jason Pomeranc, Peter Glazier, and David Rabin.

In 2004, Gruber expanded beyond PR when Project Runway debuted on Bravo. Originally conceived by Harvey Weinstein when he was at Miramax, he later brought the idea to Gruber and her client Heidi Klum. The three have served as executive producers since, although in 2008, the show moved from Bravo to Lifetime. Runway wasn't Gruber's first experience with TV: A number of years ago, Gruber shopped a sitcom about a very familiar character—a 30-something bicoastal fashion publicist—but it never got picked up.

Personal

Gruber married actor Kyle MacLachlan in her hometown of Miami in 2002. (They reportedly met at a chiropractor's office in 1999.) They had their first child, a son named Callum, in 2008. The family lives in Chelsea, in the same apartment building as Penelope Cruz, Sheila Nevins, Christopher Wheeldon, Bobby Flay and Stephanie March.
