Who
One of the city's most popular floral and event designers, Todd recently branched out into retail, too.
Backstory
Raised in Melbourne, Todd worked in set design in his native Australia before arriving in the U.S. on vacation in 1992; he says he was so smitten by the city upon his arrival, he decided to stay permanently. He spent a few years planning events around town before founding a firm of his own, Antony Todd Studios, in 1995. That same year he landed his first big gig when the White House press office contacted him about creating floral arrangements for a UN summit. (One small hitch: While he was busy working with the Secret Service to coordinate decorations at the gala, he wasn't even a legal US resident.) For his first few years in business, Todd was renowned for his exquisite floral designs. Since then, he's built a thriving event planning business and branched out into interior design and retail, too.
Of note
Todd's client list is a long one. He's done work for Graydon Carter, Martha Stewart, P. Diddy, and Amy Sacco, and his corporate clients have included CBS, Condé Nast, Giorgio Armani, Miramax, Robert Cavalli, Chanel, Ferragamo, Time Inc., and the MoMA. In 2005, he put together the opening-night fete for Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff and Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Festival. He's also worked on a slew of notable charity events, like the American Cancer Society's Dream Ball and Elton John's Oscar Party/AIDS benefit.
In recent years, Todd has moved into interior design. In 2005, he nabbed one his first major commissions when developer Daniel Brodsky tapped him to craft the interiors of his new Chelsea condo building, 4W. The designer has also become a retailer: In 2004, he opened a Southampton boutique in partnership with social fixture Nina Griscom. The store soon closed, but in 2006 he returned with a new, solo venture, a 1,600-square-foot space on East 11th Street where you can pick up $22,000 dining room chairs and the like.
Personal
The gay, single event planner/designer lives in a Chelsea apartment he bought for $1.625 million in 2008.
