Who
An heir to the Hearst family fortune, Anne is a socialite and a contributing editor at Town & Country. She's currently married to her third husband, author Jay McInerney.
Backstory
The granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst, the publishing titan who founded a media empire and inspired Citizen Kane, Anne was born in Beverly Hills and raised in the suburbs of San Francisco where she attended Sacred Heart Prep. A stint in college followed—she attended Denver's Regis College where she registered as "Anne Randolph" in an unsuccessful attempt to stay under the radar. But while Anne never generated quite as much attention as her kidnappee sister Patty, she did get into her fare share of trouble as a teenager: In 1975, she and two college buddies were arrested while trying to cross the border from Canada into the U.S. with a baggie full of amphetamines in the car. Anne settled in New York in the early 1980s and soon became a regular presence at galas and parties around town. Thanks to her hefty inheritance, she's had a busy social calendar ever since, dabbling in publishing every so often as a writer and editor. (She's been a contributing editor at Town & Country, a Hearst Corp.-owned title, since the 1990s.) She's also active on the charity scene. Hearst is an active member of Robert F. Kennedy's environmental organization Riverkeeper, and has co-chaired benefits for Southampton's Parrish Art Museum.
Family ties
Anne is one of five daughters of Randolph Hearst, who passed away in 2000: Anne's other sisters include Catherine, Virginia, Victoria, and infamous kidnap victim Patricia (Patty). Lydia Hearst and Gillian Hearst are her nieces. Veronica Hearst, Randolph Hearst's third wife, is her step-mother.
Personal
Hearst was previously married to King Harris and Richard McChesney, the father of her socialite daughter, Amanda Hearst. She's now married to brat pack writer Jay McInerney, who she met for the first time in 1986 at the club Nell's. (The two lost touch and didn't reconnect until meeting up again in the Hamptons in 2005.) In 2007, the couple tied the knot in a ceremony performed by Rudy Giuliani. They now divide their time between a Robert Couturier-designed penthouse on 9th Street which they purchased for $3.2 million in 2007 and a Peter Cook-architected home in Bridgehampton. Their Hamptons residence is home to Hearst's freaky menagerie of family pets, including three dogs, five cats, an emu, a wallaby, llamas, chickens, and ducks and a collection of miniature goats.
