Who

Jung is the chairman and CEO of makeup monolith Avon.

Backstory

The Toronto-born daughter of a chemical engineer and an architect, Jung grew up in Massachusetts and attended Princeton before starting her career as a management trainee at Bloomingdale's. By the early 1990s, she was living in Dallas and working as an executive vice president at Neiman Marcus. When she tied the knot with Bloomingdales CEO Michael Gould in 1993, she relocated to New York, and joined Avon the following year to run its product marketing group. Five years later, she was tapped to replace Charles Perrin as CEO, making her the first woman to run the company in its 118-year history. She became chairman in 2001, and now oversees a company with more than $8 billion in annual revenue and operations in more than 100 countries.

Of note

When Jung took over, Avon was a beleaguered brand, best known as the company that manufactured makeup your mother—or grandmother—might wear. Jung gave the company a makeover, investing in new products, lining up celebrity endorsements (like Salma Hayek and Reese Witherspoon), and expanding aggressively abroad to new markets like China and Russia. By all accounts, she's delivered, although her success has led many to wonder when Jung plans to move on and take a high-profile job elsewhere.

Board game

Jung sits on the boards of General Electric and Apple. On the non-profit front, she's a trustee of New York-Presbyterian, along with Sandy Weill, Jerry Speyer, Ivan Seidenberg, and Howard Stringer, among others.

Personal

Jung, who is rarely seen without her trademark pearl choker, has been married and divorced twice. Her most recent husband was Michael Gould, with whom she adopted a son. (She also had a daughter with her first husband.) Jung lives on Park Avenue, in the same building as Citigroup's Sallie Krawcheck.
