Who

The daughter of Anne Hearst, Amanda is an occasional model and frequent party-goer.

Backstory

The great-granddaughter of publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst, Amanda is the daughter of Anne Hearst and her second husband, Richard McChesney. Amanda's parents divorced shortly after she was born and she grew up in the city, studying at Chapin before heading off to Choate Rosemary Hall. A stint at Boston College followed, but college wasn't of much interest to young Amanda and she soon took a year off to pursue modeling. (She appeared on a cover of Cosmopolitan and in ad campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Brunschwig & Fils during the year off.) She was eventually persuaded to return to school, and she now attends Fordham where she studies art history. But modeling continues to take up most of her time. In 2006, Amanda ditched her longtime modeling agency Elite to sign with Ivan Bart's IMG. In 2007, she became the new face of preppy fashion label Lilly Pulitzer and signed on as the "global ambassador" for Tommy Hilfiger. As for the latter, unfortunately, she's had trouble understanding just what the position consists of: She described it to a reporter as "like, being a spokesperson, I guess, but more active."

Family ties

Amanda's mother is Anne Hearst; her new stepfather is novelist Jay McInerney. That makes infamous kidnappee Patty Hearst her aunt and Gillian Hearst Simonds and Lydia Hearst her first cousins. Veronica Hearst—who was married to her grandfather, Randolph Hearst, until his death in 2000—is her step-grandmother.

Personal

Hearst was dating Winston Lapham—the son of former Harper's editor Lewis Lapham—for years, until the couple broke up in spring 2008. She has since been linked to Alejandro Santo Domingo, an heir to one of the largest fortunes in Latin America. She lives in Midtown.

No joke

With her Malibu Barbie looks, Hearst clearly fared well in the genetic lotto but she still has to spend a considerable amount on upkeep. Forbes once estimated her yearly "maintenance cost"—which includes spending on clothes, makeup and vacations—at $136,360.
