Sporting Events

Scenes From Wimbledon | Plenty of familiar faces were in the stands at Wimbledon over the weekend, including Justin Timberlake, Ben Stiller, Kate Winslet, Scarlett Johansson, and even Henry Kissinger, who "appeared to have trouble staying awake" at yesterday's men's final pitting Andy Roddick against Roger Federer. The most awkward juxtaposition in the crowd: Ralph Lauren, who was seated next to Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi, and directly in front of Russell Crowe. According to British press accounts, Allen looked "grumpy" sitting in the stands wearing a "flowerpot hat." Lauren and Crowe didn't look all too happy either, although that may have been because they were forced to sit next to a man wearing a "flowerpot hat." [The First Post, AP]

American Apparel Caves | The intimate details of Woody Allen's love life will not be made public, after all. The filmmaker filed a $10 million suit against American Apparel a few months ago, claiming the apparel company had tarnished his rep by featuring him on billboards in New York and LA without his permission; American Apparel vowed to fight the suit and threatened to delve into Allen's personal life at trial in an effort to prove his image had already been marred by scandal. Now the whole mess is about to disappear: This morning American Apparel agreed to pay Allen $5 million to settle the dispute, which Allen claims is the "the largest reported amount ever paid under the New York right to privacy law." Woody Allen v. American Apparel | In a deposition for his $10 million suit against American Apparel, Woody Allen described the clothing company's ads today as "sleazy," "adolescent" and "infantile." Yes, this would be the same Woody Allen who sleazily started an affair with his quasi-stepdaughter, who was an adolescent at the time. But at least he'll have something to talk about at his next session with his psychoanalyst. [NYP]

Jean Doumanian Returns to Familiar Territory
Jean Doumanian, the film producer who may be best known for feuding with former business partner Woody Allen several years ago, has a new project in the works. Her production company has acquired the stage and film rights to Mitchell Zuckoff's 2005 book, Ponzi's Scheme, which details the life and times of Charles Ponzi, the charlatan who made off with millions in the 1920s. Naturally, Doumanian thinks the timing is just right for a tale of greed and financial fraud: "The whole ambiance of Boston in the '20s before the Depression has great parallels with what we're seeing today with Madoff and our terrible recession-depression." Presumably she'll have plenty of personal material to draw on, too. When Woody Allen filed suit against her several years ago, he alleged that she and her husband had been providing him with false financial records and had used shady accounting tactics to cheat him out of millions.

But she's hardly the only one who has been married to someone who could easily pass for her father or granddad. After the jump, a list of famous New York couples and their equally famous age gaps.
