Frieze Art Fair: Not Complete Washout

130287Sales are, no surprise, slow at the Frieze art fair in London, where all the art world people—Charles Saatchi, Dasha Zhukova, Dakis Joannou, Gavin Brown, Thelma Golden—have been circulating among celebrities—Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller, Sofia Coppola, Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson—for whom being seen at an art event is a nice way of distancing themselves from the contents of In Touch. "I come to Frieze every year," Gwyneth told reporters. "It's something I really look forward to." (Of course, she didn't actually buy anything, deciding instead to pose for the cameras and talk about the election.) More

Happy Birthday | Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. hasn't had the easiest year: the paper's revenues are declining, hedge funds have taken hold of two seats on the Times Co. board, and he moved out of his Central Park West apartment when he split up with his wife of more than 20 years. Hopefully he'll be in a better mood today when Bill Keller wheels in a giant birthday cake to celebrate Sulzberger's 57th birthday. Others celebrating today: Art work fixture (and Studio Museum chief curator) Thelma Golden is 43. NBA commissioner David Stern is 66. Shubert Organization chairman Gerald Schoenfeld is 84. Bonnie Hunt is 44. Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli is 50. Retired Rangers star Mike Richter is turning 42. And Scott Baio is 47 years old.

2) Also on Tuesday, Elvis's granddaughter Riley Keough and famous elf Elijah Wood were the hosts of a fundraiser at Milk Studios in the meatpacking district for The Art of Elysium, a charity that connects artists with sick children. Danny Masterson, Ann Dexter-Jones, Alexander Dexter-Jones, Michael Hilfiger, Zoe Kravitz, Genevieve Jones, Amy Sacco, Tara Subkoff, and Agyness Deyn—sans Albert Hammond Jr., possibly because his ex May Andersen was there?—all peered at silkscreens of Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Lou Reed.
