• Joanna Shields, who served as president of Bebo before its acquisition by AOL (and now serves as president of AOL People Networks), picked up a two-bedroom duplex at 31 West 16th for $2.175 million. • Two months after he went into contract on a triplex at 3 East 75th Street, James Chanos has closed on the property. The 7,800-square-foot estate had been on the market for $24.85 mil. with Paula Del Nunzio. Chanos paid $20.365 mil. [Cityfile]
• Justin Long paid $1.999 million for a three-bedroom, Spanish-style home in Los Angeles. It's his second major real estate purchase in just the past few months: Back in July, he picked up a pad on the LES for $2.425 million. [Real Estalker]
  
• Chad Pennington's mansion in Muttontown, NY (see photos) has gone into contract for "close" to the $3.995 million asking price. [Newsday]

Things haven't been going all that well for Jets quarterback Chad Pennington as of late. There was the ankle injury last year, which sidelined him for a while, his team's less-than-stellar performance during the 2007 season, and news that he may be replaced by a younger QB if he doesn't shape up. Now he's selling off his 7,000-square-foot house in Muttontown, which he purchased for $3.595 in 2005 and remodeled to include an enormous personal gym and media room.
