Billy Thompson Leaves the House Empty-Handed | Poor Bill Thompson. As much as he'd like to hear President Obama publicly endorse his candidacy for mayor, he just can't seem to get him to utter the words. At last night's Democratic National Committee event at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Obama did make mention of Thompson. ("Our candidate for mayor, my friend Billy Thompson, is in the house.") But it clearly wasn't what Thompson had been hoping for. When asked if he considered the Obama shout-out to be an endorsement—he did say "our candidate," after all!—Thompson put it bluntly: "No. Do you consider that an endorsement?" [Politico, NYT, NYDN]

Yes He Did, Apparently | In a major upset, the Nobel Committee announced this morning that it's awarded this year's peace prize to President Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." [AP, Reuters, NYT]

Michelle Obama has been beloved by the fashion community since the early days of the 2008 campaign, as you're probably well aware. But she's now in danger of losing a fan in Tim Gunn. It seems the First Lady made the disastrous decision to wear a pair of crocs a few weeks ago and the Project Runway host isn't having any of it. On the Bonnie Hunt Show yesterday, Gunn started off by saying he was prepared to give Michelle the benefit of the doubt just this once. "I'm trying to look at this positively," he says. "I'm trying to think she was doing a footwear experiment. And she's decided to put them aside."More

Scary Rudy Rumor Quashed | Is Rudy Giuliani planning to run for president again in 2012? And is that why President Obama encouraged Gov. Paterson to abandon his gubernatorial bid? (The theory being that if Giuliani becomes New York's governor next year, he'd be better positioned to compete in a presidential election in 2012, and that by pushing Paterson aside, the chances of Rudy taking Albany are greatly diminished.) Paterson Rebounds—Sort Of | Gov. David Paterson wasn't in a good mood yesterday. Still on the defensive following the revelation over the weekend that President Obama has been quietly (or not-so-quietly) urging him to abandon his 2010 gubernatorial campaign, the governor had to come face to face with the president when Obama stopped off in Albany yesterday to give a speech.
