It looks like Robert "Bob" Jaffe, the Palm Beach social fixture and Bernard Madoff middleman now under investigation by the FBI, could use a couple of bucks. Palm Beach Post gossip columnist Jose Lambiet reports that Jaffe recently turned up at a consignment shop in town with some of his jackets. "We're selling Mr. Jaffe's things right now," says the store manager. "We've got some nice Kiton jackets and sportcoats that belong to him. New, they're about $5,000. I've got one on sale for $895." From Jaffe's skeleton-filled closet straight to you!

Consignment? Jaffe should have put it on EBay. You can't tell me there wouldn't be a line of people willing to pay for his or Bernie's stuff just the burn it.

I don't buy it for a second. Smells like a story plant for some sympathy - since Jaffe hasn't been getting much of that lately. If he was really desperate for cash I think he would opt for a property sale or a discreet pawnbroker. The fact that this consignment shops confirms that Jaffe is consigning his jacket there just makes it all the more fishy. He's been blasted from all sides for helping Madoff reel in suckers and on top of that the "suckers" have discovered he was making HUGE fees for doing it - when many were under some delusion he was just doing them a "favor." By planting this story it fuels rumor that he too was hard hit and wiped out by Madoff - to the point he's selling the shirt (I mean jacket) off his back. It's a PR ploy to take the sting out of awful press he is getting - and maybe cool off the tempers off all his Palm Beach buddies who will feel a little bit better thinking he's in such dire straights.
